Focus Designs Self Balancing Unicycle Version 2.0 Now Available (video)

Focus Designs have been developing their self-balancing unicycle for some time and are now ready to released a new Version 2.0 which is ready for market and is available to purchase for around $1500.

Focus Designs has used seven sensors, gyros and accelerometers to monitor the orientation of the unicycle. Which is then decoded via a processor, by a number of custom algorithms. This data is then feed down to the hub-mounted motor which then either speeds up or slows down to maintain axial forwards/backwards balance. We now know that the Samsung Galaxy S III exists, Samsung confirmed it in their recent earnings call and now it would appear that the Galaxy S III has appeared on Samsung’s website.

According to the guys over at Pocket Now, a reference to the Samsung GT-I9300 has appeared on Samsung’s website in the UAE, and this apparently corresponds to the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Twitter To Censor Tweets By Country

At a time when Internet censorship has become a hot topic, Twitter has decided to announced that it will now censor tweets by country, and certain tweets may now be blocked on a particular country depending on the rules of that country.

Previously when Twitter blocked a tweet, it was removed from Twitter, now what will happen is that Twitter will be able to block a tweet from being shown in one country, whilst the tweet can still be seen in other countries around the world.

Infinity Ward Fixing MW3 Elite DLC Maps Locked To Single Account

Modern Warfare 3 Xbox 360 gamers who are already aware of the issue with the new Elite DLC maps being locked to one account on Xbox Live. Will be pleased to learn that Infinity Ward has issued a statement this morning, saying that they are aware of the problem and are currently working on a fix which they hope to roll out very soon.

The map locking issue is a big deal for Xbox 360 users of the game as it violates Microsoft's own Xbox Live terms and conditions. But after a little investigation and discussion it now seems that the locking is probably an honest mistake by Infinity Ward.

Google has today opened its Google+ social networking site up to users aged 13 years and over, dropping the signup age from 18 years an over. Google+ is now available to anyone that is old enough to have a Google Account, which is 13+ in most countries.

In opening the Google+ doors to younger users Google has also added a few safety features, and has tweaked kits Hangouts service to accommodate the younger users. Now if a younger member joins a Hangout, Google+ will automatically cut off audio and video to the younger user, asking them if they would like to participate or leave.

In the Soulcaliber 5 game a new player gauge has been introduced that works similarly to the “super meters” found in other fighting games. The “Critical Finishes” of the previous game have also been removed, as is the Soul Gauge. Armour remains destructible but no longer has an indicator showing when it will break.

Motorola sold a total of 200,000 tablets in the last quarter of 2011, for comparison Apple sold a who sold a total of 15.43 million iPads for the same period in 2011.

Google Earth 6.2 Update Adds Smooth Seamless Scrolling

Yesterday Google started rolling out a new update for its Google Earth software, which takes it to version 6.2. The new Google Earth update has now removed the “patchwork effect” normally seen when viewing images in Google Earth. Google has now replaced the images with a seamless smooth scrolling action.

The new Google Earth update also has a new feature that allows you to share a screenshot on Google+, plus search layers, where users can perform local searches and get directions, very much like you can do on Google’s Maps service.

Sony Xperia S To Feature Anti-Stain Shell

Sony recently announced their latest Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia S, and now we have some more details on the device, it will apparently come with some sort of special anti-stain shell.

According to a recent report, the anti-stain shell on the Xperia S is some sort of special nano coating that will be dirt repellent and also UV active, and the device is also reported to come with a fast charging ability.

Google Music Manager Update Enables Downloads

Google has this week expanded the functionality of their Music Manager for Google Music to allow users to download tunes directly from their cloud. In the past users have only been able to upload their tunes, but the new features now enables you to retrieve your entire library with one easy click of a button.

The new feature complete the Google Music package perfectly and provides a backup for your music library, enables streaming them to any computer with a web browser, Android phone or tablet, and now provides the ability to download your music to a PC.

BlackBerry Bold 9790 Lands On Vodafone UK

The guys over at Vodafone just dropped us an email to let us know that the BlackBerry Bold 9790 is now available on their network here in the UK, the device has been available SIM free from a number of retailer for a couple of weeks.

Vodafone are offering the BlackBerry Bold 9790 for free on their 24 month contract which starts at £31 per month, and the handset comes witj BlackBerry 7 OS.

Nintendo Wii U Will Be Equipped With NFC Support

Nintendo has today announced that when their new Wii U console arrives later this year, it will come fitted with support for near field communication (NFC). Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata explained that the company has added NFC technology to enable their new gaming console to interact with cards and gaming figurines.

Other possibilities for using the new NFC support might even include the ability to make micro-payments directly from your Wii U console, as the NFC hardware included in the Wii U will be compatible with the widely-used FeliCa and MIFARE standards.

Western Digital has added another external hard drive to their range with the launch of the WD My Book Thunderbolt DUO, which is one of Western Digital’s first HDD to use Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology.

iPhone 4S Makes Up 89 Percent Of All iPhone Sales

Last week Apple released their latest financial results, and they also announced how many iPhone’s they sold in the last quarter of 2011 which covers the period from the 14th of October to the 31st of December.

Apple announced that they had sold a total of 37.04 million iPhones in the last quarter of 2012, although they didn’t provide a breakdown by model, the company sells three different models, the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S.

Spotify Hits 3 Million Paid Subscribers

Spotify, the popular online music streaming service looks like it has hit another milestone, the company has announced that they now have a total of 3 million paid subscribers.

This is up 500,000 from 2.5 million in November of 2011, Spotify was sat at 2 million paid subscriber in September of 2011, and the company has said that more than 20 percent of its active users are paid subscribers.

Samsung Posts Q4 Record Profits Of $4.7 Billion On $42 Billion Revenue

Samsung has released its earnings figures for the fourth quarter of 2012, and the company has posted a record profit of 5.3 trillion Won, which works out at around $4.72 billion USD, on gross revenue of 47 trillion Won, which is around $42 billion USD.

This is Samsung’s highest ever quarter, and the profits and high revenue have been driven by sales of Samsung’s smartphones which made up around forty percent of Samsung’s overall revenue.

Google has announced that the company is bringing more than 27,0000 of its Chromebook notebooks to schools in the US, the news was announced at the Florida Educational Technology Conference.

According to Google, hundreds of schools in 41 states across the US are using one or more of Google’s Chromebooks in the classroom, and they have also said that three school districts will have one available for each pupil, with a total of 27,000 going to Illinois, Iowa and South Carolina.

Any Battlefield 3 fans looking to mod their own gaming PCs might be interested to view one that has been created by, case modding master Brian Carter. The mod was designed by Carter and created to take part in the competition run by Raptr.

Carter had the opportunity to choose between either creating a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 case. The finished Battlefield 3 case design is now finished and equipped with its own drinks fridge and has a custom airbrushed Battlefield image on one side, and a massive crosshair intake fan on the other.

LG and Prada announced their latest smartphone a while back, and now it looks like the new LG Prada 3.0 will go on sale in the UK tomorrow, as UK mobile retailer Phones4U will be selling the handsets with a number of different mobile carriers.

It looks like Samsung and Google’s flagship Android 4.0 smartphone, could be headed to another mobile carrier in the US, T-Mobile, as some references to the device have been discovered by the guys over at Cellphone Signal.

T-Mobile has yet to confirm whether they will sell the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on their network in the US, but it looks like one Samsung Android device with a 1280 x 720 display is headed to T-Mobile.

Apple’s iPad has been dominating the tablet market for quite some time, now some new figures have been released which suggest that Google’s Android platform is becoming more popular amongst tablet owners.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, in the last quarter of 2011 Android’s share of the tablet market rose to 38 percent, whilst Apple’s dropped to 58 percent, down from 68 percent for the same period in 2010.

Google has this week rolled out a new update to its Google Maps service which brings with it a new feature called Public Alerts, adding a great way to find out emergency warnings that might be in your location via Google Maps.

Today the new update launches Public Alerts on Google Maps, relevant weather, public safety, and earthquake alerts from US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service, and the US Geological Survey (USGS). Which are all now accessible online when you search via Google Maps.

Nokia Announces 1 Million Lumia Windows Phone Device Sold

Nokia has released its latest results, and confirming the rumor that we heard earlier in the week Nokia has sold over 1 million of their Nokia Lumia Windows Phone smartphones, which include the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 710.

Pentax has added another compact camera to their line up with the launch of the Pentax Optio VS20, which is described as a pocket megazoom, and it features a 20z optical zoom lens with a range of 28mm to 560mm.

Four years ago a project was started to create Pandora, an open source Linux based handheld gaming console, powered by an ARM processor. Now after a long development process and funding to the tune of around half a million Euros from dedicated fans of the Pandora console, its now available to pre-order.

The specifications of the Pandora console haven’t really changed much since the project started, so a handheld gaming device that was at the top of the curve regards specifications four years ago, is now looking a little more down to earth. The Pandora does still pack in some great features though that are not available on other handheld gaming consoles.

Which demonstrates whats possible when you combine the two to create a Holographic Games Engine. Asus ET2700 All In One PC Lands In Europe Next Month

Asus announced their latest all in one PC, the Asus ET2700 back in December, and now the company has announce it will go on sale in Europe this February for 1,399 Euros.

As a reminder the Asus ET2700 comes with a 27 inch full HD multi-touch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and it offers support for 10 finger multi-touch.

Counter Strike Map Recreates The Office From The TV Series (video)

Counter Strike fans of the TV series The Office by NBC, might enjoy playing this new Counter Strike Source map which has been created, modelling the Dunder Mifflin paper mill offices from the comic TV series.

The map builder has been creating the CSS map on an off since 2009 and has done a fine job, creating The Office in all its glory. Spending over 500 hours building each section in detail, see the results in the video after the jump.

SIM Free White Samsung Galaxy Note Now Available In The UK

The other day Samsung announced that the white Samsung Galaxy Note would be available in the UK exclusively through UK retailer John Lewis, and now it appears that the exclusivity only lasted a couple of days as the device is now available from other UK retailers.

We just got an email from the guys over at Clove to let us know that they now have the SIM free white Samsung Galaxy Note in stock, and the device is available for £538.80 including taxes.

We have featured a number of iPad powered mixers over the last couple of weeks, which have been feature at this years NAMM show. Another to add to the list is the newly unveiled Mackie DL1608 iPad mixer, which uses your iPad for processing power.

Apple Has Paid $4 Billion To App Developers

As well as announcing record profits, plus record sales of the iPhone and iPad, Apple also released some details on how much money they have paid to developers of applications for their iOS platform.

Apple announced back in 20120 that they had paid developers over $1 billion in revenue, this jumped to $2.5 billion by the summer of 2011, and now Apple has announced that they have paid out a massive $4 billion to application developers.

HTC To Announce New Smartphones February 26th

We have seen a couple of leaked HTC smartphones over the last few months and now we have an actual date on when HTC will be unveiling its latest Android smartphones as well as other smartphones and devices.

HTC has sent out invites to a special event on then 26th of February 2012, which is the day before Mobile World Congress starts in Barcelona on the 27th of February.

Gamers who enjoyed the classic Command & Conquer game which was originally launched back in 1995. Will be pleased to know that developer Aditya Ravi Shankar, has now created the game as a HTML 5 version which can be enjoyed directly from your browser. The new browser based version is still a work in progress at the moment explains Shankar, but it still provides you with all the classic gameplay of the original.

Minecraft and Lego builders, will be pleased to learn that today Lego has given the go ahead to creating a Minecraft Lego set after working closely with the LEGO CUUSOO project.

The LEGO CUUSOO project community pushes around ideas for Lego sets, and then helps generates support for each to try and make them a reality. They have been working closely with Lego to try and push the Minecraft sets forward and it now looks like Lego can see the potential for a partnership with Minecraft.

According to a recent report by the Next Web, UK mobile operator O2 may actually be sending your mobile phone number to every single website that you visit on your device.

This was first discovered by Lewis Peckover, who created a website to check what information would be sent to a website by a mobile browser when it requested data.

PS3 PlayMemories Editing Suite Arriving In March

Sony has announced that it will soon be launching a new editing suite for its PS3 called PlayMemories within the European PlayStation community. That will enable users to be able to edit photographs and videos directly from their PS3 consoles.

The new PS3 PlayMemories suite will be arriving in March and will be priced at around €10 or $13, once it arrives. The news was announced by a Sony representative during the London Sony event earlier this week. The PS3 PlayMemories application was also on show at the recent CES exhibition.

Nokia Announces 1.5 Billion Series 40 Mobile Phones Sold

Nokia has announced that they have now sold 1.5 billion of their series 40 mobile phones around the world, and the 1.5 billionth handset was purchased by Mayara Rodrigues, a 21-year-old from Sao Paulo in Brazil, and the device was a Nokia Asha 303 touchscreen mobile with a QWERTY keypad.

Nokia sold its first Series 40 mobile phone back in 1999, the handset was a Nokia 7110 and it took the company 13 years to sell the 1.5 billion Series 40 mobile phones.

Google has announced that the company will be updating its privacy policies and terms of service for all of its range of products, and the new changes will take place from the 1st of March 2012.

Google has said that it has around 70 different privacy policies for all the services it offers, and now the company will consolidate more than 60 of these into one single privacy policy.

Sources are reporting that when Microsoft’s new Xbox 720 gaming console starts shipping in October or November next year, it could be packing was much as 6 times the power of the existing Xbox 360.

Sources have confined to the IGN website that mass production of the new system will start towards the end of their year and will use AMD’s 6000 graphics processor, that was introduced last year to power games and the console.

Originally the sequel to the The Darkness released back in 2007, Darkness 2. Was set to be released on July 10, 2011, but after a number of new release date and further delays. Darkness 2 has now been officially announced to be arriving on February 7th 2012 in North America and February 10, 2012 in Europe for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, if all goes to plan. Amazon has today started rolling out a new update for their new Kindle Touch device, version 5.0.3. Amazon is automatically rolling out over WiFi over the next few weeks, but if you just can’t wait the new update is also available to download for free and install manually.

The new Kindle Touch 5.0.3 update brings with it a number of general software improvements for Amazons, eReader device. It also appears to improve the performance and speed of both the navigation and the turning of pages on the device. Which have been a little sluggish since its launch.

iCloud is Apple’s new online cloud service, which has replaced their previous offering MobileMe, and it gives you access to email, the ability to backup and sync your data on your iOS devices online.

When Apple announced their first Apple TV device, the late Steve Jobs described the Apple TV as a hobby, and yesterday Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook also described the Apple TV in the same way.

It looks like Apple’s TV device is starting to become popular, in their recent earnings call, Apple announced that they sold over 1.4 million Apple TV devices in the last quarter of 2011.

Lg just dropped us an email to let us know that their LG Optimus LTE has sold over 1 million units around the world, the LTE Android smartphone first went on sale in South Korea last October and LG sold 600,000 units of the device in three months in Korea.

The LG Optimus LGE is currently available in South Korea, the US, Japan and Canada and LG has just announced that they have now sold over 1 million Optimus LTE smartphones worldwide.

Apple has released its latest earnings report for the first fiscal quarter of 2012, which covers the period of 14 weeks up to the 31st of December 2011, and the company has once again reported record profits.

Apple generated a total of $46.33 billion for the quarter with a net quarterly profit of $13.06 billion, and we also got some details on how many iPhones, iPads and Macs the company had sold.
